Joining Istituto Espresso Italiano (IEI) means becoming part of a system that protects and values the quality and the characteristics of Italian Espresso.

The certification represents a recognition of a product’s compliance with established quality standards, as a result of scientific research, sensory expertise and accurate technical controls. Obtaining Istituto Espresso Italiano (IEI) certification therefore guarantees the final customer a consistent, verifiable and measurable quality, distinguishing members on the market as companies that promote authentic Italian Espresso.

The certification underscores an ongoing commitment to quality and ensures that every stage of the supply chain, from blend to cup, meets the technical and sensory standards defined by the Italian Espresso Institute (IEI). Choosing to certificate means embracing a method, a culture and a commitment towards quality.

Products are certified through three recognition categories:

  • IEI Qualified Product: certifies espresso blends, espresso machines, coffee grinders, and commercial establishments;
  • IEI Approved Product: technically evaluates and approves components and accessories, such as water filters, espresso filters, espresso cups, cappuccino cups, detergents, and packaging;
  • IEI Qualified Premium Product: certifies top-of-the-line espresso blends, espresso machines, and coffee grinders.
